Eng HW: Stress

Today, the children in Singapore are facing a lot of stress. This is because education in Singapore has become more important. Even the graduates have problems finding a good job with better pay.

The parents have foreseen that their children have to excel in their academic results to have a decent job in future. Therefore, the children are stressed by their parents to excel academically. The children tend to compare their results with their friends to prove to their parents that they have scored well. Thus, the children are now not only facing the stress from their parents, they are also facing the stress from their friends. The teachers and the school are also giving the children. This is because once the children did not score; the parents will blame them for not teaching their children well.

I think that the parents are the key people that would affect the amount of stress the children are bearing. If the parents do not pressurize their children so much, I believe that the children will pressurize themselves too much too.

There is seen to have an increasing number of children and teenagers committing suicide. This is due to the stress they are facing. However, I believe that a totally stress-free life will only stops one from improving. Thus, though I discourage parents to pressurize the children, I still think that it is correct to have some stress to help motivate the children.

For example, if a student have a group of friends that can score very well in their results, that student will definitely do his or her best to score well to ‘fit’ to be their friend. In comparison, if this student were to mix with a group of friends that discourages him to study, he will listen to be the same as them. In this way, the student’s results will surely deprove.

This shows that when the student meets better students, he feels the stress and thus, will work hard. And when the student leave in a ‘stress-free life’, he did not see the need to improve, thus he does not work hard and deprove. Therefore, when stress works well on one, it is seen to be a good stress. However, stress-free life may not be as good. In this case, stress-free life definitely bad.

In these days, almost everybody in Singapore face a quite a lot of stress. Since we cannot reduce the stress, we must know how to relax. We can always take a one or two hour break chatting with our friends, leaving all our stress behind. Thus, children also need to have their own time of break and leisure. This must be reminded to all parents and teachers.
